Next best: Race 8 #9 HAIL VICTORY (ML 6/1). Ran poorly last time when tried in a route but returns to his favorite distance here. Has five wins over the track already.

Value bet: Race 2 #12 RIDE COWBOY RIDE (ML 12/1). Well bred colt has been showing speed but stopping. Has changed to a better barn lately and has been freshened. May get the lead here and not stop.

Best Bet: Hawthorne Race 3 WIN #4 Basilio’s Thunder (3/1 ML). This 6 furlong features a field of maiden 2YO fillies and Basilio’s Thunder looks sharp. This filly has great speed and finished in the money against similar competition last time out. If she can overcome her 57 day layoff, I expect to see her in the winner’s circle.

Next Best: Hawthorne Race 1 WIN #3 Kindred Heart (5/2 ML). This 1 Mile and 1/16th claimer features a group of 3YO and 4YO fillies and I’m thinking Kindred Heart is the one to beat. She will face some competition in here for sure, but should have what it takes to get the job done.

Value Bet: Hawthorne Race 2 EXACTA BOX #7 Delusional (7/2 ML) with #3 Groom (9/2 ML). Ten horses are scheduled to start in this 6 furlong maiden claimer and I think both of these horses look good. One of them
could graduate today, with the other as a runner-up. Let’s hope that happens and try to cash some winners!

Woo, hoo! It’s finally Friday! The temperature’s dropping, but this lady’s hot, hot, hot. Both Best Bet and Next Best sailed on to victory at Santa Anita yesterday. Value Bet showed promise, but got caught at the wire and finished 4th. We’d be crazy to stop California dreamin’, so here are some Friday Santa Anita picks for you.

Your BEST BET is 3 LINDA LOU in RACE 7 (3/1 ML). Sharp filly loves the grass and sure looks like she means business today based on her string of 6f and 7f works. Trainer Mandella hasn’t been tearing it up this meet, but he has been having a very good year and knows how to win, especially with Flores on board.

Your NEXT BEST BET is 1 YODELEN DAN in RACE 2 (5/2 ML). Gelding is in terrific form right now. Coming off a 2 win streak, the last going long here on the grass. May be a little shorter distance than he likes, but he loves Santa Anita. Baze wins at a 27% clip locally for this barn. Icemancometh is scary in this, but I think Dan can catch him in the stretch.

Your VALUE BET is WIN/PLACE on 7 SAINT’S CROWN in RACE 3 (8/1 ML). Takes a drop today after finishing a respectable 4th in her turf debut. Should like coming back to the main track, where she has finished in the money 4 of 9 starts here. Should also like the shorter distance – won here last spring at 6 1/2 f against tougher. Trainer does well with switches from routes to sprints.

7 for 12 over the wires and tires at Santa Anita, the extra 1/2 furlong will be greatly appreciated her this filly today, as will the jock change from Coulton to Talamo. Another good sign is the comeback at 10k. Looks very live today again.

Comes in off the layoff today, his last win was on the poly at Ocala at todays distance. Ran very respectable at both  Keeneland and Arlington as well. He clearly like the poly and will be a juicy price today coming in off the shelf.

Breeders Cup betting in 2009 begins with five races on Friday, November 6th. ESPN 2 will be televising all of the races on Friday. The races on Friday are the Juvenile Fillies Turf, the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, the Juvenile Fillies, the Filly & Mare Turf and the Ladies Classic.

Saturday ’s Breeders Cup betting, will be the Breeders’ Cup Classic which is a mile and ¼ for $5 million dollars. Also on the board is the Breeders’ Cup Turf which is a mile and a half for $3 million. The Breeders’ Cup Mile is also on the board and it is a $2 million dollar race. The Sprint and the Juvenile are $2 million dollar races with the Sprint going 6 furlongs and the Juvenile a mile and 1/16th. The Dirt Mile is another race on the card for Saturday with a $1 million dollar purse. The Juvenile Turf and the Turf Sprint also have $1 million dollar purses. The Marathon which is a mile and a half race has a half million dollar purse.

And holy cow, you just can’t ignore the connections. Bob Baffert is on fire this meet as is Go Go Gomez – the two of them are 49% when they team up at SA. Colt should be smiling for the camera today.

Your NEXT BEST BET is 3 FOREVER MY LOVE in RACE 3 (7/2 ML). Speedy filly reunites with Bejarano – he rode her to victory twice last spring and they finished 3rd on the Hollywood grass against tougher. Last race on the lawn was not pretty, but she got caught in a pace duel and faded, shouldn’t be the case today. Consistently sharp work tab.
