Now let’s take a look at some Monday picks, including a spot play as my best bet of the day!

MOHAWK-

Best Bet- Race 2 #2 Kandor Hanover, M/L 9-2. This mare is in sharp form and continues her rise in the class ranks. It is not certain what competition level she’ll peak out at, but, from what i’ve seen the past few weeks, leads me to believe she’ll handle this classification. She was hopelessly blocked in her last start and a win seemed impossible. A patient steer by Waples and a huge brush on the end of it allowed her to pull off what looked like a miracle! Her main foe tonight, Armbro Continental is a very classy horse and provides a stiff challenge for this mare. His last race saw him ALL OUT and fully extended on the end of his mile, but was unable to get to the winner that night. I am hoping the all out effort leaves him more empty than usual for tonight and I’m looking for this mare to once again pick up the pieces! Next Best- Race 8 #2 Lets Make Ideal, M/L 7-1. Like the move inside for this guy tonight. That should make a huge difference for him. He fits as well as any, in this dime claimer. Trainer Bill Davis has had a few other winners the past week and perhaps his barn is starting to heat up a bit! Mark MacDonald like to roll with these types of horses and i expect him to be forwardly placed with an opportunity to be well spotted. He could grab all the marbles at a nice value price. Watch the tote for the clues, to see if others see it the way i do..

Value Bet- Race 6 #8 Ise the By Boy, M/L 6-1. WIN PLACE SHOW. His recent race Aug 23rd, race 7 at Grand River is very telling. If you watch the replay you will notice he was full of pace on the end of his mile and clearly was moving the quickest of them all. It even looked at full speed that he may have gotten the lions share, but in the end was 3rd beaten narrowly on the line! One jump past the wire, he appeared to be on top. That’s significant because the stretch at Grand River is leaps and bounds shorter than the stretch he will get to run on tonight! If there is significant pace to chase, this one provides a huge shot to be in the frame! Worth an across the board wager and Zeron should have him rolling late.. Dangerous at an honest price!

NEXT BEST–MONMOUTH PARK—RACE 10 –# 3 SOK SOK.
Had no shot in that 4 1/2 furlong fiasco at Mountaineer last time out. That was a god primer for today though. Been running against much better and should boss this field easily if Assmussen has him tight. Steady works at Churchill look OK to me.

VALUE BET–DEL MAR—RACE 10—# 2 MR KATZ / # 7 KNOCKOUT ARTIST….$2 EXACTA BX.

With those 3 horses expecting to get most of the attention, one must remember this race has had it’s fair share of huge upsets! A couple that come to mind include the 1991 Metro that saw Shipps Saint knock off Cole Muffler in a 50-1 shocker and more recently in 2005 when Rock N Roll Hanover pulled of the upset at a 40-1 price! I’m keeping all that in mind for this years race mainly because the logistics of this race could set it up for an upset. With 4 horses coming into this years final with win streaks on the line, there is sure to be an abundance of support on them and perhaps the race could shape up for an outsider to come and spoil the party, should a speed battle develop among the contenders. Best Bet- Race 10 THE CANADIAN PACING DERBY, #2 Hypnotic Blue Chip, M/L 5-2. Not often I like taking a 4 yr. old against older horses in a tough stake such as this, but, this guy is no ordinary 4 yr. old. He displays wicked second half speed and there’s no reason that he won’t have pace to chase in this final. He has shown on more than one occasion the ability to close in 25 seconds and that will bode well for him. He holds an advantage over his main rival Shark Gesture in the draw which see’s the Shark leaving from out in post 8. I also like the fact that this guy had to race in last week’s elimination which should have him tight for this.

Next Best- Race 3, SHE’S A GREAT LADY CONSOLATION, #4 Tea Pot Hanover, M/L 7-2. No Doubt in my mind that this filly would’ve raced in this year’s final, had she NOT drawn so bad in the elimination. The post position did her in that night, but she showed promise in delivering a back half in 53.4. With that kind of speed, she poses a great danger to knock off this field and i get the feeling she’ll come down quite a bit from her morning line of 7-2.

Value Bet- Race 7, METRO FINAL, #7 Roll With Joe, M/L 30-1. WIN PLACE SHOW. Could this be the shocker of then night and at 30-1? Not sure we’ll get those inflated odds considering he was 3rd last week to Prodigal Seelster and he was only 8-1 that night. Anywhere in double digits would suffice for an across the board try on a pony who just booted home last week with a back half in 53.4 of his own. I like that George Brennan has been summoned up from the Big M for the drive and he knows this horse and has done well in the past while teaming up with trainer Ed Hart. While the buzz around the track these days are with the Rock N Roll Hanover babies, this guys pedigree is exquisite enough being a son of Cams Card Shark out the genuine mare Classic Wish! Upset possibility at a price!

NEXT BEST—MONMOUTH APRK—RACE 10—# 9 SPARKYS DREAM.
Was scratched out of a stakes at Saratoga for todays race. Paco Lopez is off death row and able to ride the final weekend of the summer meet. He will capita;ize on the daughter of Giants Causeway today.

VALUE BET–DEL MAR—RACE 8–# 12 IZSHELEGAL.
Will get a dream trip from the uter most post today. The 7f distance in this graded stakes will give her the ground she nees to get to a pass the pace setters.

Your BEST BET is 2 GRAN ESTRENO in RACE 8 (7/2 ML). Consistent, classy fellow is 4 for 5 here and switches back to the poly after a rough trip on the grass in his last – where he still showed after a bad break. Hot Michael Baze is up for a winning barn.

Your NEXT BEST BET is 9 DOWER in RACE 6 (4/1 ML). Drops from MSW into the maiden claiming ranks. Almost won on the turf first time out – has a good shot at graduating today.

Your VALUE BET is WIN/PLACE/SHOW on 6 SWITCHING TO GLIDE in RACE 3 (8/1 ML). Seemed to find the right level in his last and he likes the grass. Just needs to avoid another  duel and he could make some noise in this.
